Presentation
The idea of bringing together private collectors and collections of contemporary African art for international exhibitions purpose is an old project dating back to the mid-1990s. We made several observations at that time, among others, the growing interest in African art with some major exhibitions and publications appearing, profusion of young artists with limited resources but encouraged by more people and organizations. Nearly 20 years later, African art is increasingly discussed among a large public, visits to artists' studios are now common habit across Africa and elsewhere, purchasing and collecting works from African artists are no longer simply a decorative endeavour but a deliberate act of appreciation. Exhibitions exclusively dedicated to African art are multiplying, featuring prestigious curators and enjoying considerable success.
Main Goals
Africa Collectors & Collections Art Initiative is sponsored by HSTB Law Firm, with following goals :
First goal
Acting for art in general and African art in particular beyond usual circles, pooling knowledge of collectors, collections, artworks, artists, events, and documentation to express common understanding of contemporary African art from private collectors and collections own words, views, and choices.
Second goal
Introducing and showcasing unknown artists, particularly those outside the usual art scene.
Third goal
And ultimately, bringing works and artists out of private collections that would otherwise remain unknown to the public.
We believe that art has a positive impact not only on our customers, visitors, partners and assistants, but also within the communities where we are active around the world.
Here are some art events organised in Paris in relation with this Africa Collectors and Collections Art Initiative. Others major cities are under contemplation for similar events.
